SELECT CLIENT PROJECTS

Oaklawn Residence

Clients live in a beautiful early 1900’s manor house in South Pasadena.  The master bath had not been substantially altered since the house was built, so the aim of the project was to create an updated and visually attractive space while making sure the new bathroom fit within the striking architectural features of the house.   We started by considering what the client’s desires for new space would be, and what (if any) original features we would keep. We ultimately decided to keep the original claw foot bath tub – it is larger and some might say more beautiful that most tubs on offer today.  Everything else was gutted and replaced. The original bathroom had one small pedestal sink so we created a spacious vanity with storage below and a make-up / dressing table with stool below. A built-in bench was created as well with additional towel storage underneath.  A linen closet at outside of room was removed and incorporated into the new space so that we could enlarge the shower area and move the toilet to a more practical place within the room. Bright white mini-hex tiles were installed on the floor, along with white brick tile on walls to enlarge the space while at the same time giving it texture.  The barrel vaulted ceiling was covered in a beautiful dreamy cloudlike patterned wallpaper to raise the ceiling. A bench was installed in the new shower as well. Lastly, updated lighting and electrical was installed to bring the room into the 21st century.

Dundee Drive Residence

After two previously successful interior projects with the clients, their house suffered major water damage due to a broken fire hydrant. This unfortunate incident gave the clients the a chance to rethink and improve the areas of the house that had suffered water damage. These rooms included remodeling the kitchen, dining room and 3 baths. We decided to gut the kitchen and start afresh. Working with architect Timothy Joslin, we updated and improved the kitchen to work more efficiently while having the most up to date appliances, materials and finishes. A farmhouse sink centers the space, whilst carefully planned storage cabinets greatly improved the function of the kitchen. We lightened up the room with glass front upper cabinets and coordinated countertop material and backsplash tile. In the upstairs bath, we decided to keep a stained glass window that gave the room character while enlarging the space by removing a ‘70’s era dropped ceiling and false wall that had been hiding a lovely small window. We used light materials – marble counters and herringbone tile floors to enlarge the space visually. A downstairs bath was turned into the ‘map room’ to reflect the clients’ love of world travel.

Calle Rolph Residence

The client wanted to update a midcentury house in the Deep Well neighborhood in Palm Springs.  The house had been remodeled in the 1980s with mixed results. The goal was to open up the space and bring it back to its original midcentury architectural roots.  Accordingly, we removed the lava rock fireplace and mantel to reveal the lovely and simple brick fireplace underneath. New countertops were installed on the wet bar to give it a more updated yet appropriate feel.   A new furniture plan was devised to reorient the space and to make it more inviting and comfortable. The faded Persian carpet was a nod to the client’s love of history, and the design blends both city and desert aesthetics.
